Bonhams auction house is organizing an online sale of collectible designer pieces August 21 -28. The sale will feature bags signed by Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton, as well as very rare Chanel bags from the 1990s from a private collection.
The sale catalogue features handbags from major houses such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada and Hermès. Fans can visit the auction house's website to get a close-up look.
A highlight of the sale is a Speedy 30 bag, the result of the collaboration between the visual artist Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton, estimated at between HK$7,000-10,000 (about US$900-1300).
Other rare pieces, from a private collection built up over the last two decades, will also be available, such as an Alma 30 bag by Takashi Murakami for Vuitton (HK$5,500-7,500 or US$710-910).
As for Chanel pieces, five vintage bags will be offered, including the "Cow Print Mini Vanity Case", estimated between HK$10,000-15,000 (US$1300-1900). According to the auction house, these bags have probably only been sold in Asia.
The Bonhams house, founded in 1793, has auction rooms in London, New York, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.
