Woman says work colleague 'didn't recognise her' after 10 stone weight loss

A woman has revealed that her colleague didn’t recognise her after her impressive 10st weight loss.

Natasha Burt, 36, says she has always struggled with her weight but reached a breaking point when she reached 21st 9lb and a size 24 over the pandemic.

Motivated to lose the weight so she could take her children to Disneyland, Burt booked herself in for a mini gastric bypass surgery in Turkey, which set her back £2,700.

Burt describes the surgery, which took place in July 2021, as the “best thing I’ve done in my life”.

Less than 18 months later, Burt has lost 10st 13lb and is now a size 12.

“It was mentally one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” she admits of the decision to get surgery.

“People say I have cheated to lose weight by having surgery but it was still tough. I have a three ounce stomach now so I eat less than my kids. I can’t indulge on rubbish food or I will be physically sick.”

Burt adds that since her weight loss, she looks so different, she's even had people not recognise her.

“I spoke to someone I know for 10 minutes at work and they had no idea who I was,” she explains.

Being able to dress the way she wanted to was also an added benefit of the weight loss.

“I lived all my life in maxi dresses and all I wanted was to wear jeans and a T-shirt,” she says. “Now I can and do.”

Burt explains that, before losing weight, she would skip breakfast and eat a “sandwich, two packets of crisps or spaghetti hoops on three pieces of toast” for lunch and have a “big portion” of spaghetti bolognese for dinner.

Following her weight loss, she has Special K cereal for breakfast, salad or half a wrap for lunch, and curry without rice for dinner.

The weight loss has also spurred on Burt to do more exercise, explaining that she has taken up the Couch to 5K app, which sees users gradually build up their running fitness, and has gone back to swimming regularly, something she used to do a decade prior.

She also finally got to take her children, Lily, 11, and Parker, four, to Disneyland this December.

“I got to take my kids to Disneyland for the first time and was able to fit on the rides,” she says.

“I had to get off a ride before at a little theme park near us because I was too big.”

Burt adds that her husband, Dan, doesn’t “see me any differently. He’s loved me through everything.”
