Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch among cast of Sam Mendes' new movie


Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch are part of the cast of Sam Mendes' latest project, "1917".

30 Mar – All the British men have gathered for Sam Mendes' upcoming World War I drama film, "1917".

Among them are Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Firth, though the roles of both actors were not specified.

It was only announced by DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures in their press statement that the two actors are part of the cast, along with Mark Strong ("The Imitation Game"), Andrew Scott ("Spectre"), Richard Madden ("Cinderella"), Daniel Mays ("Rogue One"), Adrian Scarborough ("Christopher Robin"), Jamie Parker ("Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"), Nabhaan Rizwan ("Informer"), and Claire Duburcq.


The cast is led by "Captain Fantastic" actor George MacKay and "Game of Thrones" actor Dean-Charles Chapman, who star as two young British soldiers.

The movie tells of the two soldiers' story that is set on a single day at the height of World War I.

Principal photography, to take place on location in England and Scotland, will begin on 1 April 2019.

This marks the fourth Mendes-helmed movie under DreamWorks. He made his directorial debut under the Steven Spielberg-led label with "American Beauty", followed by two more movies, "Road to Perdition" and "Revolutionary Road".
