Coldplay Pays Tribute to Gene Wilder With ‘Pure Imagination’ Cover (Video)

Gene Wilder, who died Sunday at age 83, received a tribute from Coldplay on Monday night.

Chris Martin and his bandmates remembered the actor with a cover of “Pure Imagination,” from Wilder’s classic 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”

The band performed at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Monday, after news broke of Wilder’s death the previous day in Connecticut.

In a statement, Wilder’s family said that the actor, also known for movies such as “Young Frankenstein” and “Blazing Saddles,” died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease, from which he had suffered for three years.

The family added that Wilder’s condition wasn’t previously disclosed to the public because the actor didn’t wish to worry young fans who knew him as Willy Wonka.

Following news of Gene Wilder’s death, the internet was flooded with tributes to the actor, including his longtime collaborator Mel Brooks, who called the him “One of the truly great talents of our time.

“He blessed every film we did with his magic & he blessed me with his friendship,”Brooks added.
