"Cold War 3" postpones production due to HK political climate
21 Oct – Rumour has it that the production of the third instalment of the hit thriller "Cold War" has been postponed due to the current political atmosphere in Hong Kong.
As reported on Epoch Times, the project, which was announced last year and was highly-anticipated due to the introduction of a new character played by superstar Andy Lau in addition to original cast Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung Kar Fai, and Chow Yun Fat, was originally scheduled to begin filming at the end of the year.
However, the anti-extradition protests that has been ongoing for the past few months seemed to have hindered the plan.
Sources believe that the recent hostile relationship between the protesters and the Hong Kong Police was especially crucial in the decision to delay filming, as the franchise itself revolves around the police force.
When asked about the project, Jasmine Tan - wife and unofficial manager of its lead actor Chow Yun Fat - stated that there has been no notification about production.
"Please refer to the film company for details," she added.
On the other hand, actor Tin Kai Man, who is also the president of the Hong Kong Film Workers Association, stated that it is difficult to shoot a "cop movie" nowadays not only because of the protests, but also due to China's censorship.
"The mainland's censorship is more strict, and there have been some films that were unable to obtain approvals. This is one of the reasons for the lack of such projects," he said.
