Clueless Star Stacey Dash Slams Oscars Boycott, Calls For End To BET Awards

Actress Stacey Dash has slammed the Oscar boycott, being called after nominations in the acting categories featured no non-white actors for the second year running.

Spike Lee, Michael Moore and Jada Pinkett Smith have said that they will not be attending the biggest night of the year for Hollywood in protest over the nominations.

But Dash, best known her role in the 1995 hit comedy ‘Clueless’ and these days as a contributor for Fox News, called the move 'ludicrous’, during an appearance on the show 'Fox & Friends’.

“We have to make up our minds,” she said. “Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET [Black Entertainment Television] and the BET Awards and the Image Awards where you’re only awarded if you’re black.

“If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard.

“Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. You know? We’re Americans. Period. That’s it.”

Reacting to the comment in a statement, Debra Lee, CEO of BET Networks, said: “Through our award shows and programming we have recognized incredible talent that simply does not get recognized elsewhere.

“African American contributions to American culture are countless and we cannot and should not wait for anyone to acknowledge them.”

Dash, cousin of Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash, has previously called for an end to Black History Month.

She wrote on her blog last year: “I don’t need a special month or special channel. What’s sad is that these insidious things only keep us segregated and invoke false narratives.”

The #OscarsSoWhite furore continues apace, however, despite Dash’s remarks.

'Fast & Furious’ star Tyrese Gibson and 50 Cent have both called for Chris Rock to stand down as host of the awards show, taking place on February 28.

“Chris Rock do the right thing make a statement - were relying on you to DO the right thing,” said Gibson on Instagram.

“There is NO JOKE YOU CAN CRACK TO EVER CHANGE THE WAY WE ALL FEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

50 Cent added: “Chris please do not do the oscars awards. You mean a lot man, don’t do it. Please.”
