Many of us spent the past year inside and busying ourselves with home projects, from updating kitchen cabinets to designing new home offices. If you spent a bit of your downtime scrolling for inspiration online, you might have seen beautiful fur blankets all over your Instagram feed.
The brand behind the new viral trend? Clothing label Apparis, which was forced to quickly shifted gears last year and pivot into the world of home goods as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Last spring, when everyone was unexpectedly spending more time at home, I decided to use the excess fabric from outerwear to create our first luxe blanket," Apparis founder and creative director Lauren Nouchi explains. "Sustainability is at the heart of Apparis' mission and inspiration, so using the leftover fabric was also a way to reduce waste." Soon after, Apparis Home was born.
The chic blankets—which feature the same luxurious and cozy feel of the brand's iconic plush coats—were an immediate hit. And as interest for the lavish covers grew, so did the demand for other items made with repurposed fabric, which now make up one of the brand's biggest product categories. Apparis Home has since expanded its offerings to include pillows, robes, candles, and much more—nabbing 15% of the brand's total online sales less than a year since its launch.
And there's much more to come. "Apparis is expanding the collection further, introducing new fabrics like ultra-soft Luxe Teddie faux shearling, and new products including rugs, floor pillows, and other accessories," Nouchi reveals. "The collection features colors from neutral to bold and bright, matching the FW21 Outerwear color palette."
One of its newest offerings is the Gingham Capsule collection, which features fashionable and lightweight blankets that are perfect for summer nights.
"Apparis is known for its iconic, bold fashion staples. With Apparis Home, we're translating fashion into chic, trendy, animal-free accent pieces for your living space," Nouchi says.
More covetable items—such as faux-shearling pillows, jumbo-sized blankets, fun home accessories, and super soft rugs—are slated to drop in the fall, so stay tuned. But in the meantime, shop the brand's summer collection below!
