Christine Fan recalls aunt's death in Jiji earthquake

16 Feb – Christine Fan didn't just donate NTD 2 million to the Hualien earthquake relief fund for the sake of being charitable, but also because of a tragedy that befallen her family in a similar event in the past.

As reported on UDN, the singer who appeared at a book fair recently, shared that she lost her aunt back in 1999 following a magnitude-7.3 earthquake that occurred in Jiji, Nantou County - which killed 2,415 people and was called the second deadliest quake in Taiwan's history.

Said Christine, both her aunt and uncle were trapped under the rubbles for five hours following the quake.

"My uncle was holding her hand the entire time, but could feel it getting colder and colder as time went by. When help finally came, he was saved, but my aunt didn't make it," she said.

The singer admitted that she could still feel the pain from the loss every time an earthquake happens.

Christine also admitted that following the recent earthquake, she and husband Blackie Chen decided to educate their twin sons River and Ryan about the dangers and how to prepare for them.
