Chris Rock reveals how his 'Saw' reboot will be different

Movie fans were rather shocked when it was suddenly announced in the summer that Chris Rock had come up with the story for the reboot of the Saw franchise, which he will also star in.

While Rock has overseen a number of movies as a director, including Head Of State, I Think I Love My Wife, and Top Five, which is widely regarded as his best effort, the fact they’re all comedies, and that Rock is regarded as one of the best stand-up comedians of his generation, meant no-one expected him to become so involved with the horror genre

Rock has now opened up about the Saw reboot, which has been directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, admitting that there’s much more humour than the previously rather intense and morbid installments to the series.

“I love Saw, but I was like ‘wow, it has almost no humour at all.’ So, it seemed like a good place … good fertile ground,” Rock told IGN, before then insisting that this doesn’t detract from gore and scares that has made the Saw series so popular.

“By the way, the new Saw, I’ve seen like a rough cut. It’s still Saw… it’s bloody, it’s gory, but there’s like a sprinkling of humour here and there. We’re not revamping it, it’s not Scary Movie, it’s Saw.”

In the ninth installment of the Saw series in just 15-years, Rock takes on the leading role of a police detective that investigates the increasingly grisly murders.

Samuel L Jackson will portray his father, while the cast has also includes Max Minghella, who will play Rock’s partner.

We don’t have to wait too long for the new film, too, as the Saw reboot will be released on 15 May, 2020.
