No matter how well you think you know Chris Rock, it seems the guy always has something hidden up his sleeve. Oh, you've got the entirety of his standup output devoted to memory? Great, but can you quote from his starring turn on Fargo? And did you know he is, as Mitchell S. Jackson writes in the cover story of Esquire's Summer 2021 issue, "not just a fan but a student of horror," who impressed with his deep-cut knowledge of the genre even Darren Lynn Bousman, the director of Spiral: From the Book of Saw, in which Rock stars? Oh, you knew that too? Well, did you know that Chris Rock also has excellent taste in knitwear? He does. Go figure.

Here's what Rock knew about that you (and I) didn't: a brand called La Ligne, based in NYC, that has devoted itself to the enduring appeal of striped clothing. The label's standout sweater, the Marin, has been made for women for years, and in 2019, Rock sat for La Ligne's blog, La Bande, wearing it. He looks fantastic.

The thing about the Marin is, any guy who wanted to easily could have taken some inspiration from Rock and worn it even a couple years ago. Cut generously and pretty much genderless in vibe, it would have been an easy addition to one's wardrobe. But some folks don't feel entirely comfortable with shopping across the aisle. That's fine—especially now. Because this week, La Ligne released a new version of the Marin, designed specifically for men.

"While Mr. Marin is an extension of our women’s style, we did tweak a few details ensure the most flattering fit and proportions," explains Valerie Macaulay, co-founder and CCO of La Ligne. "We changed the shoulder construction from a drop to a set-in-sleeve, added width to the bicep and sleeve overall, as well as shortened the hem length and added a few stripes to the top part of the chest." In other words: a damn good sweater just got, if not better, then maybe better for you. Chris Rock already knew it was worth your attention. And now you do, too.
