Chris Pratt reveals his new bible-inspired diet

Chris Pratt – perhaps still smarting from the remarks made about his weight by his fellow galactic guardians in Avengers: Infinity War – is going on a crash diet.

And this time, it’s biblical.

The devout Christian actor has been posting updates of his regimen on his Instagram page, as he embarks on the ‘Daniel Fast’.

It’s so-called, because of its origin in the Old Testament, and is supposed to bring participants ‘nearer to God’.

“Hi, Chris Pratt here. Day Three of the Daniel Fast, check it out,” a perspiring Pratt says. “It’s 21 days of prayer and fasting.

“It’s going to coincide also, coincidentally, with the Lego Movie 2 junket. So, by the time you see me, I’ll probably be hallucinating. Stay tuned.”

According to the fast’s website ‘it’s a biblically based partial fast based on two accounts of the Prophet Daniel’s fasting experiences (seed Daniel 1 and 10) and typical Jewish fasting principles’.

“The Daniel Fast eating plan is similar to a vegan diet with additional restrictions,” it goes on.

Sounds like heaps of fun.

He recently took an opportunity to regale fans with his faith at the MTV Movie Awards.

“God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do,” he said. “Learn to pray. It’s easy, and it’s so good for your soul.”

Pratt rose to fame playing the noticeably more rotund Andy Dwyer in US sitcom Parks and Recreation. After being told he was “too fat” to play professional baseball star Scott Hatteberg in 2011’s Moneyball, he shed 30 pounds to land the role of the dejected sportsman.

His weight yo-yo-ed over the following few years as he took on a number of different roles, including one as a buff squaddie in Zero Dark Thirty in 2012. After landing the role of Peter Quill AKA Star Lord in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt has remained a steady weight, opting for buff over dad bod.

The LEGO® Movie 2 comes to UK cinemas on 8 February.
