It was widely reported that veteran Hong Kong actor Liu Kai-chi has passed away on Sunday (28 March) from stomach cancer at 66. According to Apple Daily, good friend and fellow actor Chow Yun Fat expressed his sadness and said, “I will remember him forever, and I wish he will be at peace.”

Hiking buddies, Chow had introduced hiking to Liu when the latter was suffering from insomnia after years of grieving his late son, who had passed away from leukaemia. Chow had reportedly known about Liu’s cancer diagnosis in late 2020.

Chow’s wife cried when she received the news of Liu’s passing late on Sunday night. “As my husband was sleeping when we received the news, I did not wake him up since he will not be able to sleep after knowing,” she shared.

She also shared that the couple had believed that Liu would pull through his illness and were cheering for him. Due to COVID-19 precautions, Chow and his wife were unable to visit Liu in the hospital. However, Chow had reportedly called Liu to encourage him and check in on his illness while waiting for his discharge.

“Uncle Chi is a good husband, and my husband appreciates him very much,” she stated.

Liu is survived by his wife, former actress Barbara Chan, 60, and their two sons aged 26 and 22.
