Chiung Yao to remake "My Fair Princess"?

24 Sep – Taiwanese author and TV producer Chiung Yao recently confirmed that there will be a remake of her hit costume drama, "My Fair Princess".

As reported on UDN, the producer who announced the news via a recording during the streaming giant Tencent's third anniversary celebration on the 17th, shared that she will be putting a new version of the said drama that will cater to the younger generation of audience.

Aside from a remake, Chiung stated that they will also be releasing an animated series and a role-playing game (RPG) based on the said show, although she is unsure whether to start the animation project or the TV series first.

However, not everybody is excited with the news. After the lacklustre reception of the new version of the hit series "Meteor Garden" and the 2011 version of "My Fair Princess" starring Li Sheng and Zhang Rui, many believed that producers should just leave their classic shows alone rather than making more money from the same franchise.

The original series, which was aired circa 1998-1999, stars Zhao Wei as a vagrant who becomes a princess by accident after befriending the emperor's illegitimate daughter (played by Ruby Lin).

It is noted that there are currently two remakes of past hit shows currently in filming - the movie version of the hit 2004 Taiwanese drama, "The Outsiders", and the film adaptation of the 2005 idol drama, "It Started with a Kiss".
