Chinese celebs mourn the loss of Kobe Bryant

29 Jan – Chinese celebrities have recently taken to social media to mourn the loss of NBA star Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on 26 January.

As reported on Mingpao, actress Zhang Ziyi recently posted a long message on Weibo to express her shock over the news, writing, "It's been eight hours since I heard this bad news. My mind is stunned, blank, and the fingers typing the keys have been shaking."

"Our grief is all the same. Who doesn't want the news to be fake? Who would like to believe it true? Please don't be so gloomy, 2020. Natural disasters and human disasters, please stay away. Please!" she added.

Alex Fong, who has met Bryant twice in 2011 and 2017 - both at events related to basketball, said that he was fortunate to get to spend a whole day with the man himself and share their love of sports.
