China to have 1980's "La Boum" remake

23 Jun - It was revealed that film studio Huayi Brothers is planning to produce a remake of the 1980 French comedy, "La Boum" ("The Party").

As reported on Free Films, the company announced the news at a party held on the eve of the Shanghai International Film Festival, saying that it has partnered up with French mini-major studio, Gaumont Film Company to co-produce the Chinese version of the movie.

Another studio involved is Aim Media, the company that previously produced "Beijing Love Story".

The original French movie, written and directed by Claude Pinoteau, tells the story of Vic, a teenage girl trying to fit in her new school and discovering new love, while her own parents' marriage is dissolving.

The movie also marked the acting debut of top French actress, Sophie Marceau.

The Chinese adaptation is tentatively scheduled for 2018 release, while the cast will be announced later this year.
