SINGAPORE — McDonald's Singapore announced today that Chicken McCrispy will become a permanent item on its menu from 1 July onwards.

Chicken McCrispy is fried, spicy chicken thighs and drumsticks – arguably the best parts of the chicken, though admittedly the fattiest (but hey, that's what makes them the best parts.)

McDonald's first began serving Chicken McCrispy in Singapore in the '90s but it later became discontinued. Last year, the fast food chain brought Chicken McCrispy back for a short period, saying they were testing the market reaction. It appears that it was popular enough that they've made it a permanent menu item.

Our review

McDonald's sent us a bucket of Chicken McCrispy ahead of its launch in restaurants on Thursday, so we had a taste.

It's truly juicy and tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, as advertised. The juices were positively squirting from the chicken.

The crunchy batter is pretty spicy, even though McDonald's says it's only "mildly spicy". People who can take only a little spiciness may not be able to tahan.

Chicken McCrispy comes as a meal, bucket, or value bundle.

The Extra Value Meal, which costs S$8.40, will come with two pieces of Chicken McCrispy, fries and a Coke.

The six-piece bucket, at S$18.10, comes with three thighs and three drumsticks.

The value bundle costs S$21.50 and comes with six pieces of Chicken McCrispy, two medium fries and two Cokes.

Note that Chicken McCrispy is not available at these six locations, which are drive-through-only and kiosks, due to kitchen limitations: McDonald’s Shell Tampines, McDonald’s Shell Hougang, McDonald’s Shell Havelock, McDonald’s Clementi Avenue 3, McDonald’s Parklane and McDonald’s Tampines Kiosk.

Enjoy your fried chicken come 1 July!
