Cherry blossoms in Japan projected to bloom earlier than usual in 2019

YOSHINO, JAPAN – APRIL 03: Visitors view cherry blossom on Mount Yoshino on April 3, 2018 in Yoshino, Japan. The town of Yoshino in Nara Prefecture has become famous throughout Japan for the thousands of cherry trees that blossom in the spring covering the slopes of Mount Yoshino and nearby hillsides. The cherry blossom is deeply symbolic in Japan, it only lasts for around one week and marks the beginning of spring. It draws millions of visitors to picturesque blossom sites around the country and is mapped by meteorological agencies as the blossom spreads north from Okinawa with the warmer spring weather. ‘Sakura’ season is expected to fall earlier than expected this year 2019. While cherry blossoms peak during springtime, some time April to May onwards in the northern parts of Japan, travellers should expect an early blossom this season.

Thanks to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, we have a report on the forecast of when the flowers are projected to bloom: March 18 is stipulated as the first date for the sakura flowers to blossom in Kochi city.
