Cherie Gil moved to tears by Gawad Urian win

20 Jun – Cherie Gil couldn't help but shed a tear as she accepted her first ever Gawad Urian for Best Supporting Actress.

As reported on Rappler, the actress, who won the award for her role in Mike de Leon's "Citizen Jake", admitted that she has waited a long time to finally win the trophy, since members of her family including brothers Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil have all won in the past.

"This is the only remaining award I had not won and I always dreamed and I hope it's not a sign I should retire, because I love what I do," she said.

After thanking de Leon in her speech, Gil also dedicated her win to all women, saying, "Playing Patti Medina was more than a gift because I represented a woman affected and victimised by ills of society. And so this is for the women, for Filipino women here and abroad, who work hard to improve their lives."

On the other hand, Nadine Lustre won Best Actress for her role in "Never Not Love You" - making it the third Best Actress trophy she won for the movie following FAMAS and Young Critics Circle.
