Chelsea ‘turn attention’ to World Cup winner as Man Utd target ‘features’ on Pochettino’s shortlist
According to reports, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is among Chelsea’s targets ahead of this summer but he is also admired by Man Utd.
One of Mauricio Pochettinos’ priorities before next season sign a new goalkeeper. The Chelsea-bound head coach is understood to have a couple of players on his radar.
Martinez has been a huge player for Aston Villa over the past three seasons and he has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. He also shone at last year’s World Cup as he helped Argentina win the competition for the third time.
It was claimed earlier this month that Martinez is ‘very likely’ to leave Villa this summer and Man Utd are monitoring his situation.
The Red Devils are in the market for a potential long-term replacement for David De Gea, while Chelsea want to sign an upgrade on Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke claims Chelsea are ‘turning their attention’ to Martinez but they are also considering Brighton’s David Raya and Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.
‘A new goalkeeper is another priority position for Chelsea in the summer window,’ O’Rourke wrote for Football Insider.
‘I’m told Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez features on the Blues’ shortlist – even though they are aware it will take a huge fee to lure him away from the Midlands giants.
‘Martinez wants to fulfil his ambitions of winning more silverware after his World Cup triumph – and other top clubs are also monitoring his situation.
‘Brentford’s David Raya and Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana are also on the shortlist for Chelsea and Pochettino.’

O’Rourke is also reporting that Pochettino ‘would love to keep’ Liverpool target Mason Mount beyond this season.
‘The incoming Blues boss would love to keep contract rebel Mason Mount, I’m told,’ O’Rourke added.
‘He will hold talks with Mount, who is out of contract in June 2024, but will have no influence on the final financial offer made to him.
‘The midfielder is still no closer to signing a new deal, and Chelsea will sell this summer if an agreement cannot be found. They don’t want to lose him on a free transfer in 2024.
‘Liverpool have made Mount a top target, while Man United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also interested.
‘There is likely to be a big turnaround of players this summer as Chelsea look to balance the books and trim the squad.
‘Mount is likely to leave the club, while Mateo Kovacic is in a similar position to his fellow midfielder. He is the subject of interest from Man City, Man United and Bayern Munich.’
