Charlize Theron has said that shooting ‘The Cider House Rules’ with Tobey Maguire was a bit of a 'rough’ time.
Though the pair were in love on camera in the 1999 drama, which also starred Sir Michael Caine, it seems that’s pretty much as far as it went.
“Tobey and I had a bit of a rough time, yeah. I mean, we’re good now. It was a difficult movie,” she told V magazine.
“Every day is completely different for a completely different reason. Whether it’s the weather, or the writing isn’t there, or you don’t get along with your cast-mate you have to be able to go to something else that’s just as powerful. Does it make it as enjoyable? Probably not.”
“I mean, there were just a couple of days that Tobey and I had a rough time. The rest of the movie, we actually had a really good time.”
It seems that now, however, the experience has been put behind them.
“I love Tobey. I’m kind of glad we had that experience on that movie,” she added.
“It teaches you different things. It taught me that I could fall in love with somebody in my head while looking at someone else. We had some really intimate moments. Tobey and I didn’t feel that way about each other, so I had to figure something else out.”
It’s not the first time that the South African-born actress has clashed with her co-stars.
She admitted that she and Tom Hardy hardly got on like a house on fire on the set of 'Mad Max: Fury Road’ either.
“From what I hear, he’s not like that on every movie – I hear he’s had good experiences,” she told WSJ magazine.
“Maybe the movie is what it is because we struggled so much with each other, and those characters had to struggle so much with each other. If we were chum-chum, maybe the movie would have been 10 times worse.”
Director George Miller confirmed this, saying: “When they first meet each other, they’re trying to kill each other. As the two characters come together out of necessity and rather reluctantly, they have to find a degree of trust. And to some extent that was the trajectory of their relationship as well.”
Theron is currently to be seen in ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’, and recently signed up to play the villain in ‘Fast & Furious 8′, opposite Vin Diesel.
