Charlie Dizon thanked Iza Calzado for Best Actress win

29 Dec – If there is one person Charlie Dizon is thankful for her Best Actress win at the recent MMFF Gabi Ng Parangal, it would be her "Pandanggo Sa Hukay" co-star Iza Calzado.

As reported on Push, the actress, who spoke to the media following the said awards, revealed that Calzado enabled her to land the lead role in the Antoinette Jadaone movie, "Fan Girl", which won the most accolades at the awards earlier.

"I was with Ms. Iza filming for Cinemalaya, my project before "Fan Girl". After we did that, suddenly there was an audition for the movie. Then when I got a call for the role, they told me that it was Iza who gave them my number after she heard from the producer that they were still looking for the role of the fan girl. So from the beginning, I have her to thank for," she said.

Dizon said that she has since regarded Calzado as her "fairy godsister" who opened the door for her to meet with director Jadaone.

"Even before the winner was announced, she texted me, saying, 'No matter what happens, I am very proud of you and I want you to win. I will be happy when you win'. She is supportive of me. I am very thankful to Ms Iza," she added.

It is noted that Dizon bested Calzado ("Tagpuan") to win the said award, aside from competing with other worthy nominees including thespian Nora Aunor ("Isa Pang Bahaghari").
