Chang Chen joins jury panel at Cannes

20 Apr - Taiwanese actor Chang Chen has been appointed member of the jury for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival - making him the only Asian in the panel at this year's event.

As reported on Mingpao, "The Assassin" actor will be joining the likes of French actress Lea Seydoux, Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart, "A Wrinkle in Time" director Ava DuVernay, and Burundian singer-songwriter Khadja Nin among others.

On the other hand, the panel of jury is led by Australian award-winning actress Cate Blanchett.

Chang, who has had experience of having his movies like "Happy Together", "2046", and "Three Times" competed in the festival's Palme d'Or, said that it will be a different experience for him this time.

"I am looking forward to this trip to Cannes, and to watch all these great movies from different parts of the world," he said.

He is also the third Taiwanese national to serve on the Cannes jury, following his fellow colleagues - acclaimed director Ang Lee and award-winning actress Shu Qi.

The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from 8 to 19 May.
