The Chanel Runway Gets Fresh (Prince of Bel-Air, That Is)

Today at the Chanel fall 2016 fashion show in Paris, all guests sat front row — atypical of how designer Karl Lagerfeld usually organizes his shows: people stacked 10 rows high, surrounding elaborate sets like the giant iceberg he imported from Scandinavia for his fall 2010 show. And with his attendees practically sitting on the runway this season, all eyes were on the clothes — not the set.

And so Lagerfeld showed more than 90 looks, the majority of which incorporated fancy top hats, inspired by those worn by Lady Coco Chanel herself in Paris during the early to mid-1900s. However, some were made in ’90s Technicolor — neon pinks — and moreover mimicked the costumes worn by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s prim-and-proper Hilary Banks — in fact, almost to a T. (And what a coincidence that the Fresh Prince’s daughter IRL, Willow Smith, sat front row at Chanel’s show with mother Jada Pinkett Smith).

As the local TV weather girl, Hilary Banks often flirted with womanly ensembles at a premature age: power suits, frilly gowns, and lots of jewelry. Here, we look at our favorite Fresh Prince looks via the Chanel fall 2016 runway.
