7 Oct – Cesar Montano has recently denied claims that the Filipino government has paid for his recent trip to Russia.
As reported on ABS-CBN, the actor and former CEO of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority was among the few celebrity supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte recently accused of hitching a free vacation to Moscow while the latter was on a week-long visit to the Russian capital.
"We weren't paid by the government. We came here on our own to make you happy," he told thousands Filipina OFWs who attended an event held to welcome Duterte in the city.
Aside from Montano, other celebrities who were spotted in Moscow include Philip Salvador and comedian Moymoy Palaboy.
On the other hand, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo has also dismissed such allegation, saying that the government did not pay the celebrities.
"They have been doing that during the presidential campaign. They just happen to be genuine and rabid fans of [President Duterte]," he added.
