British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay returned to Singapore for a motivational dialogue with local youths at the ArtScience Museum on Tuesday (16 January). The culinary star was a guest of Marina Bay Sands’ ongoing event “In Conversation With”, during which he had shared advice with the 80 students who attended.

The students were from social service organisation AWWA, the Industrial and Services Co-operative Society (ISCOS), Students Care Service, At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy and the Culinary Institute of America. According to MBS, students had a chance to ask the 51-year-old several questions about his life.

We didn’t get paid well and you don’t start cooking because you want to become rich and famous. I say to all my young chefs – get that knowledge, turn that knowledge into something unique, spend that time studying. A doctor would read medicine for 10 years, a lawyer would read law for 15 years, it’s the same for food,” said Ramsay on the early years of his career.

“It’s important to go on that journey, travel, study, and don’t worry about comparing where your mates are. As you adapt to life and you change every six months, you get stronger and better,” added the television star, who has been on reality shows “Hell’s Kitchen”, “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Hotel Hell”.

Several students were excited over their chance to meet with Ramsay, with some sharing their experience on Instagram.

A very surreal moment of my life as I get to meet my inspiring internet mentor. Humble yet straight forward Thank you school for the opportunity #toobusyforselfie posted Kim Tian on Instagram.

” GET YO ASS MOVING !!!! ” Such an honor to have him share with us his knowledge, and his early beginnings, truly truly inspiring !! ☺️☺️☺️ (PS. Will never wash my shoulders),” posted a Jing Ting Ong.

Ramsay himself had shared about the dialogue on his own account: “Had a great afternoon at @marinabaysands talking to the youth of #Singapore about their culinary future ! Hope you guys had as much fun as I did Gx.”
