Celebrity Apprentice, Emerald City Premiere Dates Announced

The long-delayed eighth season of Celebrity Apprentice will finally see the light of day this January, NBC announced Monday. The Peacock has also set an early 2017 launch date for its Wizard of Oz drama Emerald City.

The New Celebrity Apprentice, as NBC is now branding it under new host Arnold Schwarzenegger, will air Mondays from 8-10 pm beginning Jan. 2. This season’s contestants include Laila Ali, Brooke Burke-Charvet, Eric Dickerson, Boy George, Matt Iseman, Carrie Keagan, Carson Kressley, Lisa Leslie, Jon Lovitz, Vince Neil, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Kyle Richards, Chael Sonnen, Porsha Williams, Ricky Williams and Carnie Wilson.

, meanwhile, will launch with a two-hour episode (9-11 pm) on Friday, Jan. 6, following the final season of Grimm (8/7c). A 10-episode, re-imagining of the classic Wizard of Oz universe, Emerald City will blend elements from author L. Frank Baum’s 14-novel collection. True Detective actress Adria Arjona stars as Dorothy Gale, who finds herself transported to a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy.

Emerald City was scrapped last year due to creative differences between EP/writer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and NBC. In April, the Peacock net revived the project with David Schulner (The Event) taking over the showrunner reins from Friedman.
