Celebrities bid farewell to Michael Lai

17 Dec – Although the funeral service for Hong Kong renowned composer Michael Lai has been held as a low-key affair by family members, it was still attended by many celebrity friends who wished to bid their farewell.

As reported on Mingpao, the composer who passed away in mid-December, was given a private service on 15 December at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom, before his ashes were taken to the Cape Collinson Crematorium in Wan Chai soon after.

Although ex-wife Susanna Kwan was nowhere to be seen, Michael's best friend Nancy Sit was spotted attending the funeral, although she declined an interview with the media.

EEG manager Mani Fok was also see at the service later on and shared that she owed her career to Michael, who brought her into the industry.

"The last time I saw him was a week before his passing. I felt saddened that he is no longer here. He was a very talented musician," she said.

Others who attended the service include Liza Wang, Cherie Chan, Connie Mak and husband Kwong Wa, as well as TVB stars Sharon Chan and Fred Cheng.

On the other hand, celebrities like Louis Koo, Jackie Chan, Julian Cheung and wife Anita Yuen, Kara Hui, Simon Yam, and Nicholas Tse sent their condolences through flower arrangements.

Michael passed away on 1 December, surrounded by family and friends. He was 73.
