Catriona Gray welcomes Angela Ponce as competitor

24 Sep – Catriona Gray is welcoming Miss Universe organisation's decision to allow Miss Spain's transgender contestant to compete in the upcoming pageant with open arms.

As reported on PEP, Gray, who will be representing the Philippines in the upcoming pageant, stated that she has never been against Spain's Angela Ponce joining the pageant when most other disagreed.

Said Gray, "I understand the argument, I really do, and sometimes people are just traditionalist and they take it as something that has been ever since, and should continue that way. But I think it's a step in the right direction to be more inclusive, and I think it educates us as a society on the whole to further understand people."

"I see nothing wrong with it, really," she added.

The beauty queen believes that it is wonderful for the LGBT community to have someone like Ponce representing them at the pageant, as she would be the person who would understand their issues the most.

"She earned the right, just like me, to represent her country. She went through the whole process, so we should celebrate that and I can't wait to meet her," she added.
