Catriona Gray: I feel more like a Filipina!

15 Jan – Australia may own her childhood, but Miss Universe Catriona Gray will always think of herself as Miss Philippines.

As reported on Push, the beauty queen finally gave her final answer to the debate as to whether she is considered Miss Australia or Miss Philippines when she stopped by the Build Series studio in New York, saying that she feels more like a Filipina.

"I really feel like I'm a Miss Philippines. It just so happens that when I was growing up, I was very much an Australian. And I think you can be both because I did grow up with those two sides of the world. I just thought it was funny that there was almost this war, like, 'no, she's ours, she's practically a Miss Australia.' But I am a Miss Philippines," she said.

However, Gray stressed that she welcomes the enthusiasm from Australians after she won Miss Universe.

She also admitted that growing up in a cohesion of cultures opened her mind on how diverse cultures can be, and that she is happy to be able to have the best of both worlds.

In a previous interview, Gray revealed that she is born in Cairns, Queensland to a Scottish-born father from Fraserburgh and a Filipina mother, but moved back to the Philippines after graduating high school.
