Cate Blanchett: 'I’m not dressing for anyone’s approval'

Cate Blanchett isn’t dressing for anybody besides herself.

The Oscar-winning actress is always a hit on the red carpet and stuns in creations from designers including Armani Prive, Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, and Christopher Kane.

And she revealed that the secret to her timeless style is to have fun with fashion, and not care about anyone else's opinions.

“I don’t think about it too much,” she told Vogue. “I’m a bit of bowerbird. My taste is quite eclectic. The more I mature, and the more that I’ve been exposed to extraordinary people designing extraordinary things – not just in the world of fashion but in architecture, theatre design, and film costumes... you accrue a sense of what’s possible.

"And also, I don’t really care what people think in the end. I’m not dressing for anyone’s approval.”

The Australian star, who has appeared on screen as Queen Elizabeth I, villain Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, and New York socialite Jasmine in Blue Jasmine, also opened up about how her characters influence her for months after filming has finished.

“The gift of playing a role, whether it’s in theatre or film, is it influences the way you look at the world for three to five months,” the 50-year-old explained. “That’s part of the privilege and pleasure of it.”

The mother-of-four, who is the face of perfume Armani Si, previously revealed that she admires women who "know how they look is not all of who they are, but just an extension of that. It’s about women who feel free to wear what they want, when they want, and how they want to wear it."
