Crazy Rich Asians’ leading man Henry Golding and director Jon M. Chu are coming to town for the movie’s premiere in Singapore next Tuesday (21 August).

The red carpet event is taking place at the Outdoor Piazza in front of Capitol Theatre from 7:00pm – 7:45pm. Golding and Chu will be joined on the red carpet by Singaporean cast members such as Pierre Png, Tan Kheng Hua, Janice Koh, Selena Tan, Koh Chieng Mun, Amy Cheng and Fiona Xie.

Prior to starring in the movie, Golding was best known as a travel host for media outlets such as the BBC and Discovery Channel Asia. Chu previously helmed movies such as Now You See Me 2 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Early reviews of Crazy Rich Asians have been largely positive, with a 98 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates movie reviews.

At the Hollywood premiere of the movie last Tuesday (7 August), there was general bemusement at the sight of a backdrop panel with the words “Sincapore Passion Made Poss ble”, a misspelling of the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB’s) tagline, “Singapore: Passion Made Possible”.

The Singapore Tourism Board initially said the error was likely due to the lettering falling off the panel. Warner Bros, the studio behind the movie, later said the lettering melted due to “extreme heat”.

The Crazy Rich Asians Singapore red carpet event is organised by Warner Bros Singapore with the support of Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Film Commission and Singapore International Film Festival.
