Manchester City will travel to Newcastle United while holders Manchester United will face Crystal Palace in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The pairings were among the best ties drawn for the third round as the sides that qualified for Europe this season enter the competition.

Record nine-time winners Liverpool were given a home tie against Championship high-flyers Leicester and Arsenal will come up against London rivals Brentford.

The Premier League’s bottom side Everton, who needed two late goals to see off League Two Doncaster, were given an away tie at Aston Villa.

Other intriguing ties pitted Chelsea, who had to come from behind to beat AFC Wimbledon, against Brighton and Salford, who beat Leeds on penalties, against Burnley.

Fulham, who saw off Tottenham, will host Norwich while fellow top-flight sides Wolves, Luton and West Ham will travel to Ipswich, Exeter and Lincoln respectively.

Sutton, the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, were drawn away at Port Vale.

In one of the notable second round ties on Tuesday night, Everton battled back from behind to beat Doncaster Rovers. After Beto and Arnaut Danjuma netted in his side’s 2-1 victory, Sean Dyche admitted that he needed to “change a few things” at half-time.

“Every game is a tough game. There are no ‘gimmes’ in football,” Dyche insisted.

“We changed a few things at half-time, reminded them they are good players, that they are Premier League players, reminded them to take the second half on acting like Premier League players. We more or less did.”

Beto added: “I am really happy to score on my debut to help the team win the game. I am looking forward to the next games to play with my team-mates and keep winning.

“I can’t promise goals but I promise effort and to work hard. I will try to help the team to score goals.”

Danjuma said: “Relief is the word we are looking for. It was a hard-fought game in the end.

“I can’t say we are satisfied with what happened today. By Everton’s standards, we should have killed the game way earlier, but all respect to Doncaster obviously. They played a good game.

“With our quality of players we should have performed better but it’s at least something to build on.”
