The new “Captain Marvel” movie should get a director before the end of the year and we cannot handle the suspense

Fans of the Captain Marvel series know a thing or two about patience. Even though we know that Brie Larson will be playing Carol Danvers in the upcoming movie, we still don’t know who will direct the latest installment in the franchise.

It can sometimes feel like two steps forward, three steps back over there at Marvel Studios, but studio head Kevin Feige is making some big promises. Feige told Vulture:

“I expect to have a director by the end of the year. We’ve been meeting amazing filmmakers. We have a general view of what the movie is, and then we meet with filmmakers and share that with them and then they pitch it back to us in a better fashion.”

Call me Captain Marvel.

We had high hopes this summer when Marvel announced that Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers) at San Diego Comic Con, but the studio just wasn’t ready to commit to a director yet.

There is some good news, though. This summer, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that there are three major contenders for director — and the very, very big news is that they are ALL women: Lesli Linka Glatter, Niki Caro, and Lorene Scafaria. This is a huge deal for the franchise (and all humanity, frankly) because it’s Marvel’s first female-centric superhero movie.

There’s some talk that Carol Danvers will make her debut in Avengers: Infinity Wars, and (fingers crossed) we might get a peak at her origin story and see how she got her powers.

Hopefully, the end of 2016 will see one of the women on the list helm the Captain Marvel movie. We are already waiting until 2019 to see the movie, so this suspense is a special kind of torture.

No matter who gets the job, we’ll be here for Brie Larson and Captain Marvel.
