'Candyman' and 'The Forever Purge' delayed by Universal

The release of Nia DaCosta’s Candyman reboot has been delayed from 25 September, 2020 to 16 October, 2020.

The Jordan Peele-produced “spiritual sequel” takes the release date previously occupied by Blumhouse’s Halloween Kills which has been delayed to October, 2021.

A visual artist sits at the centre of the new Candyman, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II starring as Anthony McCoy, who moves into the new gentrified housing projects of Cabrini Green and discovers the horrible truth about the urban myth of the Candyman.

He uses this story and others like it as the inspiration for his paintings, which leads his own sanity to begin to fracture. Based on Clive Barker’s short story, The Forbidden, the Candyman series has spawned three films to date, with DaCosta’s film being the fourth installment. Watch a trailer below.

The Forever Purge, the next film in Blumhouse’s hit Purge franchise, has also been delayed a full year from July 2020 to 9 July, 2021.

Directed by Everardo Gout and produced by Michael Bay and Jason Blum, The Forever Purge is being billed as the fifth and final film in the thriller franchise. It was filmed in California between November 2019 and February 2020.
