Voice changes are a good sign of whether someone fancies you or not, according to a new study.
Scientists found people subconsciously alter the pitch of their voice if they are attracted to someone.
So if you are going on a date this Christmas, you would do well to listen not only to the words your date says but also how they say them.
According to the research, a lower pitch could be a sign you’re in with a chance.
As part of an experiment, men and women were set up on a series of six-minute dates. Researchers recorded their conversations during the date.
After each date, they were asked to provide a yes/no response to whether they found their partner attractive or not.
It was discovered men spoke with a lower pitch when they were on a date with someone they had said ‘yes’ to. Interestingly, they were also likely to lower their pitch for a woman other men had also ranked attractive, even if they had personally responded with a ‘no’.
Women also lowered their voice for men they fancied. However, they did not do the same for a man who they had said no to, even if many other women had said they did fancy them.
Many singles will be looking for a significant other after the festive period, with one survey finding peak dating seasons start on 26 December and lasts up until 14 February.
So, if you are struggling to tell whether your date is going anywhere, tuning into their voice might be a good first step.
