Calvin Klein reimagines Warhol's "Silver Clouds" for NYC flagship

Calvin Klein's fascination with Andy Warhol continues, following the transformation of the US fashion house's New York flagship store into an interactive art installation.

The Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Madison Avenue flagship store has reimagined the iconic artist's "Silver Clouds," as part of the brand's ongoing partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.

"Silver Clouds," which was first installed at New York's Leo Castelli Gallery in 1966, blurred traditional boundaries of the relationship between artwork and viewer, and featured 15 gleaming, pillow-like balloons. In homage to the piece, Calvin Klein has installed hundreds of untethered, chrome-like "clouds" filled with a mix of ambient air and helium, that hover and float freely in mid-air until they are impacted by the presence and movement of visitors. The balloons have been printed with images from the brand's Spring 2018 Calvin Klein 205W39NYC runway collection, which featured Warhol's Death and Disaster series and portraits of confidantes Dennis Hopper and Sandra Brant.

The concept, which was recreated in the same ratio as Warhol's original work, will be available to view and interact with through February 28.

Calvin Klein first announced its partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc back in November 2017. The partnership will see the fashion house granted "unprecedented access to the late artist's works, including many that have not yet been published," which will in turn help to financially support the foundation's distribution of contemporary visual art grants. The partnership will run through 2020.
