Caitlyn Jenner Suggests She Was More Famous in 1976 Than Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Are Now

A lot has changed between 1976 and now.

Nonetheless, Caitlyn Jenner was asked on this week’s Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons to compare her fame at the height of her Olympic glory to the pop culture domination that her family enjoys today.

“1976 was kind of an interesting year, and the games in ‘76 were the highest-rated games of all time,” the 66-year-old gold medalist explained. “Nothing even comes close to it anymore.”

“Not that I’m in competition with my family,” she added. “But it’s fun to think about.”

The reality star went on to admit that she has never been familiar with her son-in-law’s music catalogue, but does say, “Kanye and I get along very well.”

“He treats Kim very well, that’s what I care about,” she said. “He’s always been a good dad with the kids.”

“He’s been very good when it comes to my issues,” Caitlyn noted, continuing her long praise of Kanye’s support throughout her transition. “He just loves me to death.”

So, when Kanye asked Caitlyn for help shooting his recent pot-stirring “Famous” video, Caitlyn was happy to oblige.

“He said, 'We’ve got some mannequins,’ and this and that, 'It’s about fame, and you’re the most famous person in the world,’” she explained of how the video was explained to her. “Kim warned me that there was a shot in the video that may be controversial in it, with all these life-like mannequins of all these famous people in a 40-foot-long bed.”

Of course, the “controversial” shot, as it turns out, was pretty much the whole video, and Kanye himself predicted lawsuits after debuting the video – which Caitlyn said, occurred very shortly after the production was shot.

“I shot it that morning, the next day they edited it, and the following day it was at Staples Center,” she recalled.

“He’s great at stirring it up, getting the pot going,” Caitlyn said. “And he certainly did with that picture.”

Of course, living life on camera is nothing new for Caitlyn, who appeared on Keeping Up With the Kardashians for years, before getting her own show, I Am Cait, after opening up about her transition.

While Simmons wondered whether dealing with her personal struggles was made more difficult with reality TV life, Caitlyn said, perhaps surprisingly, that doing TV only helped her relationship with her children.

“Some of the best conversations I’ve had with my kids have been on camera,” she shared. “Because you’re forced into that conversation.”

And of course, there’s no question she’s living her best life now.
