1. Pasta J
For Pastas and Doggy Dress Ups
Set in a row of shophouses along Upper Thomson Road, Pasta J makes an excellent spot for pasta-loving dog owners. Dogs are welcome indoors, but you will have to keep yours on a leash beside you. The owner is likely to come by with lots of cuddles though! He's also known to host dress-up events for fur babies. The upcoming Pasta J Dog Halloween Party is on 29 October, with a best dressed competition for owners and their dogs who show up in costume. Food wise, Pasta J does excellent pastas. Get your meat on with the Caramel Carnivore ($16.90). Burpple Tastemaker Kelly Wong loves how the pasta is slicked with smoky, caramelised onions and tossed with marrow, meat and cartilage. She also declares the topping of pork balls to be the yummiest she's had! Pro tip: Seating is limited so make reservations if you're visiting in a group. For Brunch for You and Pooch
Set in a quiet Serangoon neighbourhood, this cosy cafe is often filled with dog owners, making it a great spot for an impromptu play date for your pets. There even is a menu of pet food using human grade meats and vegetables, and cooked without seasoning — an 80g portion of boiled minced meat starts from $6, and they also serve assorted fruit and vegetables ($3 per portion). They also restrict ingredients that are toxic to pets in their regular menu, so there's no chance of fur kids gobbling up whole onions, chocolates or nuts from the floor. (Dogs are allowed indoors.) Try the Beef & Spinach Omelette ($14), which sees fluffy eggs blanketing a delish wagyu patty beneath. They take their coffee seriously, so you'll be hard pressed to find any fault in their brew, or more reasonable prices! (One of their baristas is the national champion for the Singapore AeroPress Championship 2017.) Sip on a Flat White ($3) or treat yourself to the Metrosexual ($4.50), an alcoholic blend of espresso, gula Melaka and Kahlúa. Avg Price: $20 per person Photo by Burppler Eat.Swell on Instagram3. The Garden Slug
For Yummy Food and Pet Shopping
The food is hearty and good, and they love animals — there hardly is a better place for East-side pet owners to hang out at than at this longstanding Telok Kurau cafe. The attentive staff are known to treat pets to a refreshing bowl of water upon arrival. On top of that, there are several pet-related shops along the stretch — perfect for stocking up on treats and essentials. The menu of comfort classics sees the likes of their popular Tom Yum Pasta Vongole ($19.50) and Signature Cowboy Burger ($25, named after the resident cat, Cowboy), along with a few surprising additions. Check out the Roti Johnson ($25), which does a cheeseburger in the style of a roti John, complete with chilli eggs and lots of cheese. Avg Price: $30 per person Photo by Burppler Pearl Low4. Open Farm Community
For Farm Fresh Eats and Garden Roaming
For a family brunch or girly catch-up in a green oasis near town, Open Farm Community's the place. The food at this rustic-chic, farm-to-table dining space is put together with much thought and very delicious — Burppler Jackson Sim really loved the Rigatoni with Local Mushrooms, Smoked Pancetta, Stilton and Balsamic Glaze ($28). Also, don't miss the Burpple community's favourite of Lemon Tart with Basil Ice Cream ($14) — so refreshing! Enjoy your food at the spacious alfresco area when you have your dogs with you. The greenery is great for roaming, both for fur kids and children. Avg Price: $45 per person Photo by Burppler Jackson Sim5. Canopy Garden Dining
For Hearty Brunch Plates in Bishan
Set within lush Bishan Park, this casual chic restaurant turns out smart plates, and the garden setting makes for an atmospheric day out with your dog. Pop by after a morning frolick in the park, pull up a seat at the alfresco dining area and feast on hearty brunch plates like Corned Beef Hash ($12), Buttermilk Pancake ($10) and Serrano Ham Sandwiches ($15). Burppler Shawn Loh loves the Crabmeat Aglio Olio ($19) — if you're a chilli fiend like him, ask for extra spicy only if you can take the serious heat. Pro tip: The spacious alfresco area is surrounded by bushes — great for curious pets but humans should pile on the insect repellant. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burppler Shawn Loh6. Ah B Cafe
For Wholesome Fare and Attention to Detail
This spacious (60 indoor seats) and well-maintained cafe in Sunny Heights is one of our top picks. The decor is minimalistic, which ensures good space for dogs to roam, and the charm lies in its dog-centric details like filtered tap water at the sink, baby-proofed sharp edges and fenced outdoor space that gives pooches plenty of freedom to wander without owners fearing they would slip out. Sunny Heights offers free parking, plus the place is part of a complex that includes a doggy pool and pet groomer, which justifies the drive out to this part of Bukit Timah. While pets roam and play, humans can feast on real, good food (all free from MSG) like Salmon Teriyaki Rice ($19.80) and Duck Pasta ($17.80). Pro tip: The cafe only allows pet food from nearby Bossipaws. It also gets crowded on weekends, so make reservations. Avg Price: $20 per person Photo by Burppler Randy Lim7. Casa Verde (Botanic Gardens)
For Pizzas with Pooch in the Park
This laid-back trattoria at Singapore Botanic Gardens is the place to grab a pizza while your furry friend gets a bit of sun. The alfresco area at Casa Verde welcomes dogs of all sizes. It's very popular among dog owners and young families, so expect to pick your way through both dogs and toddlers alike. Food-wise, Burppler Carrie Carrie recommends the Laksa ($9.50), which she said is worth every cent she spent. Ask for belacan if you fancy more of kick, like she did. Casa Verde also does excellent pizzas (from $24) — it's hard to go wrong when everything is good! Pro tip: If you want to hang out in the gardens while noshing on good food, consider getting the Picnic Basket ($30), filled with hearty bites including two six-inch pizzas, to take with you out onto the greens. We're sure your pooch would love the extra space. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burppler Carrie Carrie8. Happenstance Café
For a Fuss-Free, Dog-Friendly Day Out
With spacious, clean interiors, and the provision of basic cleaning necessities for pets should the need arise, Happenstance makes hanging out with furry friends a cinch. Pets are welcome at the table, and they can also tuck into pet-friendly Customised Pasta ($6.50) that makes for a nutritious meal (or snack, if you have a big dog). Food-wise, Burppler Liew Jie Ying is a big fan of the BBQ Pork Ribs ($25) — savoury, hearty and so tender it's hard to stop eating. The Happenstance Signature Burger ($14.90), Creme Brulee ($6.50) and Green Tea Bingsu ($15.90) are pretty tasty too. Avg Price: $20 per person Photo by Burppler Liew Jie Ying9. Paws N Pans
For Dog-Friendly Meals for a Cause
This dog-friendly cafe in Joo Chiat opened for a cause — they actively promote adoption of animals and public awareness on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. Expect regular adoption drives, set up in collaboration with animal welfare groups! This means that it's a good place for those looking to hang out with their dogs, as well as aspiring dog-owners in need of some furry therapy — pets are allowed indoors. The compact menu offers Asian flavours like Chicken with Rice and Fried Egg ($10.80) and crisp and juicy Sesame Chicken ($8.80). Meanwhile, treat your dog to specially prepared Doggie Bowls (from $8.80), topped with salmon, hormone free chicken or lean pork. Avg Price: $15 per person Photo by Burppler Jayson Yeo10. Artistry
For Early Weekend Breakfasts
Artistry opens at 9am on weekends, great for pet-owners looking for a breakfast nook. The outdoor tables are great for a meal with your fur kids in tow, and while roaming space is limited, the attentive staff are known to offer water to dogs. Artistry excels in their hearty offerings. Humans will not go wrong with the much raved about Chilli Crab Burger ($25). Expect a crisp brown shell of blue swimmer crab meat, served with chilli crab sauce that packs just the right amount of heat. Or keep it classic with the Triple Cheese Sandwich ($12) and the Big Breakfast ($22), which Burpple Tastemaker Jean Kao says comes with fried kale chips and fried potato puffs. Come hungry! For Doggie Meals out West
This cheerful cafe is a hidden gem for dog owners living in the west, especially if you enjoy taking your dogs for a walk in nearby West Coast Park. While dogs are not allowed indoors, the alfresco seats are comfortable and perfect for a meal with the family, fur babies included. There's usually a jar of complimentary dog treats on the counter that you can reach into to calm restless pets. As for food, Burpple Tastemaker Acamas Teo loves the Pork Cheek Quesadilla ($17), which sees moist, juicy and fatty shredded pork cheek encased in tortilla wraps, served with corn chips and salsa. The Sake Mussels with Garlic Bread ($12) are also great if you fancy a light meal. Consider pairing it with the intriguing Kimchi Cocktail ($15), which Burpple Tastemaker Justin Teo describes to be tart, spicy, sweet AND savoury. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burpple Tastemaker Acamas Teo12. Coastes
For Laid-back Beachside Afternoons
A longtime favourite among Sentosa beach bums, this laidback beach bar is perfect for doggies who love to frolick in the waters and on the sand. If not, there are bean bags provided for dogs who fancy their creature comforts. Grab a seat at the benches meanwhile and order up some hearty comfort food. The oven-baked Coastes Chicken Wings (from $10 for half portion) are always amazing, especially with a squeeze of lime. The pizzas are also delish — try the meaty Big Bad Wolf ($25) or the Asian-inspired Duck and Arugula ($22). Get a couple of Beers (from $13), sit back and watch the sun go down. Pro tip: Coastes is currently restoring its sandy beachfront to arrest erosion, so beach access is limited for a few weeks. Check their website for the latest updates. For Comfort Food and Great Service
Located at the junction of Holland Avenue and Holland Road, PARK is a favourite among cafe-loving Burpplers, and a good idea for pooch owners too. Burppler Hwans Lim loved that her dog was served a bowl of sparkling water (yes you read that right, sparkling). Grab alfresco seats and order the fail-safe crowd favourites — the kitchen turns out excellent Truffle Fries ($11), Truffled Mac & Cheese ($12) and Mentaiko Cream Pasta ($17.50). Sip on their excellent Matcha Milk ($5.50). The service is excellent, both to humans and pets. This is a lovely place to while away a lazy weekend afternoon while noshing on some really delicious and affordably-priced food. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burppler Alison Ho14. Little Island Brewing Co
For Beers and Spacious Grounds
Located behind Changi Village Food Centre, this 270-seater microbrewery doles out the perfect combination for lazy weekends — good food, great beer and chillout vibes, along with an idyllic sea view. This eastside space is an ideal spot for family and friends looking to gather over a few ice-cold pints while doggies roam the spacious alfresco grounds. Take note that dogs are allowed indoors only when it's raining. The Roast Duck ($25), 15-hour Smoked Wagyu Beef Brisket ($18/100g) and Pork Ribs Balinese Style ($26/200g) are stellar options for food, and go well with an order of Roasted Chilli Pumpkin ($10). As for drinks, you get to have some fun pulling your own pint. The Black Magic Dry Irish Stout ($12) and Oh Yeah Singapore Pale Ale ($10) are both very popular here.
