Bryan Singer Comments On Wolverine's X-Men: Apocalypse Appearance

Yesterday’s final trailer for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ confirmed that the upcoming mutant superhero epic will feature Hugh Jackman’s fan-favourite hero Wolverine.

Now the trailer is live and racking up views, director Bryan Singer has been quizzed about Wolverine’s appearance, offering some very cryptic words about what to expect.

“Make of that what you want,” he told Empire of the brief snippet seemingly set in the Weapon X facility that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton. “I will say, it’s not simple. There’s something more pivotal that occurs with that.

"It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It’s not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in. It’s not the only shot you’re gonna see, let’s put it that way.”

At the end of 2014’s 'Days of Future Past’, Wolverine is taken away by Mystique, disguised as General Stryker - the character who traditionally brings Wolverine into the Weapon X programme.

That film shook up the X-Men timeline, essentially rebooting the continuity and expunging the original trilogy and the two 'Wolverine’ spin-offs from the ongoing story. This means a new journey for Hugh Jackman’s character during these prequels and future films.

Jackman’s final appearance as the iconic character comes in 2017’s spin-off, believed to be based on the Old Man Logan comic storyline. Twentieth Century Fox won’t waste time re-casting the character after he leaves, and this 'Apocalypse’ scene could be used to engineer that ahead of whatever 'X-Men’ film comes next.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens when 'X-Men: Apocalypse’ is released on 18 May.
