Britney Spears just admitted her karaoke with James Corden was “awkward”

The internet rejoiced this week after James Corden released his popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment featuring the Princess of Pop herself — Britney Spears. The video has already amassed over 8 million views and it’s only been out for three days. Oops, I guess the pop icon did it again! (See what we did there?) Unfortunately, according to Britney’s most recent on-air radio interview, the entire thing was awkward to film.

Britney explained that her stiffness and lack of enthusiasm during some of the singing numbers was due to the fact that she didn’t want to sing her old hits. In fact, she said, “Sometimes I got onto him and said, ‘I don’t want to hear that song again,'” but they cut it out of the final video for obvious reasons. This comes as a stark contrast to the previous installments of the video series featuring stars like Adele.

And before you go online and bash Britney for this, just imagine how long she has been in the public eye. Her most popular songs have been with us since she was 18 and even though we love them, she’s had to perform them an infinite number of times.

Plus, as she points out in the interview, people recognized her and James Corden as they drove around town. With so many eyes on her, who can blame the star for not being super enthused? But even after hearing all of this, the video is still highly entertaining and worth a watch. Nothing can keep our eyes off Britney!
