Britney Spears isn’t collaborating with Justin Bieber, but she’s got lovely things to say about him

When rumors swirled earlier this month that a surprise duet between Britney Spears and Justin Bieber would appear on Spears’ forthcoming ninth album, Glory, it definitely seemed like an interesting prospect. After all, Spears herself has talked about this album having a different sound than her work in the past, and she’s working with plenty of artists and producers from all genres, from rapper G-Eazy to hip hop golden child DJ Mustard… so it really wouldn’t be too surprising for her to team up with the Biebs for a track.

I’m not sure how other Britney fans felt, but I actually hoped this dream duet would become a reality, because I think their voices and artistic visions would have worked beautifully together. Suffice it to say I was here for a new age Britney and Justin, especially since we’ll never get the real thing (although my heart still holds out hope that Spears and Timberlake can come together for a duet some day in the future! A girl can dream, right?).

But alas, Spears is setting the record straight on why fans won’t see a collaboration between she and Bieber anytime soon.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills, the radio host asked Spears if she’d soon be collaborating with the Biebs, and Britney shut the rumors right down, saying “No, there’s no truth to that at all.”

She did confirm that she has met him, though, and she had the sweetest things to say about baby Biebs.

“It’s weird. Like, probably three years ago on Femme Fatale. He walks into my hotel room, and he was like a kid! Literally, he looked like he was 13 years old, but he was 16. And I was like, ‘Who is this kid in my hotel? Like, what is going on?’ And his mom is like, ‘Is there a suntanning bed located in here?!’ And I’m like, ‘Who are these people?’ And my assistant was like, ‘This is Justin Bieber and his mother.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god! I cannot believe this.'”

“He’s very unassuming,” she continued. “He’s a very nice, kind boy. He’s obviously way older now. He was extremely kind.”

Okay, so I guess these two won’t be sharing a mic anytime soon. But it definitely seems like there’s nothing but love there. Britney shouted him out in a March 2016 interview with V magazine, sympathizing with his intense celebrity status at such a young age. She told the magazine,

“Whoever is in the spotlight, people are really quick to judge. I mean, there are a lot of kids coming up who’ve experienced that. You know, Justin Bieber, he’s huge and he experiences [judgment]. It’s the way the world works, unfortunately.”

As for the Biebs’ feelings on queen Brit, well of course he’s got nothin’ but love for her, too. He made a point to give her a good ‘ol Spiderman kiss when checking out the seating arrangement at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.

Only time will tell if these two will get to hang out at this year’s show, but for now, check out Britney’s interview on BBC Radio 1.
