  • Jamie Spears is speaking out about the #FreeBritney movement about his daughter Britney Spears.

  • The movement is filled with fans who think Britney is being controlled by those around her.

Jamie Spears is speaking out about the possibly toxic movement about his daughter. Britney Spears fans have created the #FreeBritney online movement that’s rooted in the belief that Britney is being controlled by those around her. Due to her 12-year conservatorship, Britney does not have full control over her finances. But her father insists that the movement “is a joke.”

“All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue,” he told Page Six. “It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.”

He also shut down the idea that he’s been stealing money from his daughter’s accounts. “I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something? People are being stalked and targeted with death threats. It’s horrible. We don’t want those kinds of fans. I love my daughter,” Jamie continued while becoming emotional. “I love all my kids. But this is our business. It’s private.”

Apparently, the #FreeBritney supporters are not convinced that Britney has true agency in her life. The movement has a Change.org petition that’s garnered more than 100,000 signatures. “She deserves to live and not be told what to do, when to to do it & how to do it. She can control her own life,” the petition reads. “Her team has kept her quiet for years and it’s now time for Britney to speak! She’s been held against her will and kept quiet for too long. At this point, it’s no longer about Britney the pop star, it’s about Britney Jean the person. She’s a human being, not a show pony.”

Even Britney has seemingly spoken out about it in her own way. On July 10, she assured her fans that she’s happy.

“I get how some people might not like my posts or even understand them, but this is Me being happy,” she explained. “This is Me being authentic and as real as it gets !!!!! I want to inspire people to do the same and just be themselves without pleasing others…that’s the key to happiness 🌸🌸🌸🌸 !!!!!!”

Despite her attempts, one of the top comments on the post includes the #FreeBritney hashtag. Seems like her fans still aren’t convinced.
