Brigitte Lin wins Lifetime Award at Udine Festival

24 Apr – Former screen siren Brigitte Lin has recently been awarded the Golden Mulberry Lifetime Achievement Award at the Udine Far East Film Festival.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress who looked stunning in her black dress as she came on stage to accept the award at the event, said that she is thankful to thousands of people who were involved in her 22 years of career prior to her retirement.

But she expressed a particular gratitude to Taiwanese writer-filmmaker Chiung Yao - whose novel "Outside the Window" became the 1973 movie that introduced her to the industry.

It was noted that Brigitte's first few years in the movie business was marked by the many projects she did based on Chiung's works.

She also thanked director-producer Tsui Hark, who helmed and co-starred in a number of her classic movies, including "Peking Opera Blues", and "All the Wrong Spies", as well as designer William Chang, who has designed various costumes for Brigitte in several movies.

Finally, the actress expressed her gratitude to producer Shi Nansun, who herself won the same award three years ago, saying that the producer gave her a lot of great advice that enabled her to make good decisions in her life.

On the other hand, FEFF director Sabrina Baracetti stated that they have decided to award the actress for her popularity in Italy through movies like "Chungking Express" and "The Bride with White Hair" - adding that the latter was her favourite film as well.

"For a long time in the 1990s, she was the face of Hong Kong cinema, and she was in all the films that we liked. Back then, if you thought of Asian cinema, you thought of Brigitte Lin first. She opened the door to Hong Kong cinema a long time ago, so we thought we should bring her over to Udine to celebrate her achievements," said Baracetti.
