Brandon Routh Wins Best 'Superman' Sport Award

It’s only natural to seek one Superman’s opinion about another’s.

So that’s what we did at Comic-Con when we met Brandon Routh, who played Supes in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns in 2006. Still, things got a tad awkward when we asked what he thought of Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader and Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.

Routh’s producer on the CW show Legends of Tomorrow quickly pointed out our faux pas (watch above), saying it’s like asking about an ex-girlfriend. (Neither Singer nor Routh was asked back by Warner Bros. to make another Superman movie.)

Routh admitted he’d always questioned the premise of Bats battling Supes, and said he assumes “in the end they’ll work together and be one big happy family to preserve the DC [Comics] universe.”

But that’s no trash talk. As Routh exited our interview space off camera, he noticed our life-sized Superman/Obama cutout and aptly noted, “Hey, that’s my body! … Take my picture by it!”

Routh is clearly proud of his superhero status — past, present, and future. After all, he plays the Atom in his upcoming TV show, premiering next year. That DC Comics superhero has the ability to shrink himself down to the atomic level. Something not even Superman can do.
