Neneh Cherry stars in the new fashion short from Bottega Veneta.
English designer Daniel Lee, who helms the Italian label, released Bottega Veneta: Men on Thursday, which stars Swedish singer Neneh, French-British rapper Octavian and Italian dancer Roberto Bolle. It was created in collaboration with photographer Tyrone Lebon.
“In celebration of those who inspire us, we created a short film,” Daniel said, reports Interview. “An exploration of identity, masculinity and our relationship with clothing.”
Neneh shared a clip on her Instagram page.
“Going to the @bottegaveneta shoot was my first work venture after 3 months of lock-in,” she told her followers. “I was so worried about how socially awkward I might be, unable to do anything. It ended up being the sweetest most wonderful day! @tyronelebon so deep we were going to talk for 30 mins talked for an hour could’ve kept going for 3! keeping it family thanks for having me it was truly an honour #bottegaveneta #daniellee.”
In the clip, the Woman singer talked about what it means to be a female.
“As a woman I’ve always felt that to show your weakness is also a strength,” she said. “I very much have to have a consciousness of who I am. This is my life and it’s a form of a protest. Putting a Kangol hat on and a short skirt and trainers was a lift. It was a kind of armour. Stepping into the room as a female, but like in a boy’s stride but in a female way.
“I’ve always been interested in not necessarily doing what’s expected of me; breaking the rules
My name is Neneh Cherry, I am 56. I make music.”
