London's Borough Market has started livestreaming free virtual cooking classes on Instagram for those who miss their farmer's market cookery.
Every day at 1 pm, a different chef will guide viewers through simple, pantry recipes on Instagram Live.
The historic market in the Southwark area of London remains partially open amid the COVID-19 lockdown. So far, hot food stalls have closed, but shoppers can still buy cheese, fish, deli meats, olives, olive oil, baked goods and wine.
Cooking demos originally scheduled to take place at the market will be moved to the digital sphere. Chefs like Sarah Danesin, Roopa Gulati, Jenny Chandler and Clare Finney will conduct their demos on Instagram Live, and classes will stay online for 24 hour. Special guest Romy Gill is scheduled to share vegan recipes April 1 at 1 pm.
Fans of the famous market can also share recipes, tips, articles and videos on the newly launched Borough Market Community Facebook page.
So far, food writer and author Emma Hatcher has shared a recipe for spring rhubarb compote.
