Wrangler has teamed up with Bob Marley's family for a new capsule collection inspired by the later singer.
The Wrangler x Bob Marley apparel collection pays tribute to Marley’s style and comprises colourful prints, retro graphics, photos of the musician and patches inspired by his life and albums.
Marley’s daughter Cedella believes her dad, who died aged 36 in 1981, would have thoroughly approved of the collection released to commemorate what would have been his 75th birthday.
“Collaborating with such an iconic denim brand was a natural way to pay tribute to my father and his aesthetic,” Cedella said in a statement. “It’s exciting to see his spirit and signature style transcend time and continue to appeal to new generations.”
Wrangler worked closely with Marley’s family to create The Bob Marley Collection and both sides were involved in the development, artwork and materials used.
The company will donate $25,000 to the Bob Marley Foundation, a Jamaican non-profit organisation which focuses on education, culture and wellbeing of the Rastafarian community.
“2020 has been all about celebrating daddy’s 75th birthday with a multitude of fun and thoughtful activations in honour of his legacy,” Cedella told Rolling Stone. “While it has always been a focus of ours, we knew it was super important to ensure our collaborations also help provide relief to those in need.”
The line, which ranges from $29 to $129, includes layered denim shirts, T-shirts bearing Marley quotes and denim jackets.
There are four T-shirts for men and a jacket, as well as three women’s T-shirts and a jacket, plus two unisex denim shirts.
“Bob Marley is fondly remembered as someone who was strong and true to his convictions – qualities that are inherently connected to the Wrangler brand’s ethos,” Holly Wheeler, vice president, global brand marketing at Wrangler explained.
More pieces are due to be added to the collection for fall 2020.
