BMG Promotes Thomas Scherer to EVP US Publishing

BMG had upped Thomas Scherer’s roles as EVP of International Writer Services to EVP BMG US Publishing, responsible for BMG’s LA and New York-based publishing creative teams. This announcement comes after Zach Katz took the reins as President, U.S. Repertoire and Marketing, for BMG U.S., overseeing both music publishing and recordings.

“We are delighted to promote Thomas Scherer to this new enhanced role,” said BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch. “In his understanding of our core values and with his positive energy and ability to inspire others, Thomas is an invaluable member of the BMG team.”

Scherer has helped BMG develop its SoundLab writers’ camps, while helping to shape BMG’s LA-based Writer Services function. Scherer has helped with signing and acquisitions in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has also coordinated BMG’s service to professional songwriters around the globe. Scherer will be reporting to Katz for BMG’s US Publishing activities. Scherer will also report to CEO Masuch in his international role.

Scherer has many years of experience in the music industry. He first started off as a drummer and a producer in his home country of Germany, where he also found success under his music label through the old BMG. He joined BMG in Berlin in 2009 and relocated to the Los Angeles in 2014.
