'Blade Runner' Sequel Has a Title, Release Date
If you’re a fan of sci-fi, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, or ’80s nostalgia (that covers just about everyone, right?), it’s time to mark your calendars: the Blade Runner sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters exactly one year from today, on Oct. 6, 2017. As if that wasn’t enough news, Warner Bros. also revealed the official title of the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 dystopian classic: Blade Runner 2049.

Per the title, it appears that the new film will be set 30 years after the original Blade Runner (which takes place in the year 2019). Gosling is set to star, and Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard, the former police officer once tasked with killing the “replicants” (human-like androids) secretly living among the people of Los Angeles. Blade Runner fans have long debated whether Deckard was, himself, a replicant — a question to which Scott, the film’s director, has answered “yes,” Ford has answered “no,” and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Vileneuve has said he will tackle in the sequel. Perhaps that’s what they’re discussing in the photo above, released by Warner Bros., which shows Villeneuve, Scott, Ford, and Gosling hanging out on a rather unremarkable set. For now, that’s all we get: Story details, like tears in the rain, are lost in time (by which we mean, Warner Bros. isn’t sharing them yet).
