Blade Runner Sequel Gets Release Date

It’s official – ‘Blade Runner 2’ is heading to cinemas in 2018.

The upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s impressive sci-fi classic ‘Blade Runner’ has just been given an official US release date – 12 January 2018.

Harrison Ford will reprise the role of Deckard.

The original ‘Blade Runner’ followed Deckard as a crack replicant hunter tasked with bringing down a group of replicants who had made their way to Earth. It also starred Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hanna, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos.

‘Blade Runner 2’ will star Ryan Gosling in an unknown role… but it’s thought that this new character will be attempting to seek out Deckard – the only replicant so far to avoid death on his expiry date.

But that’s just a rumour.

Denis Villeneuve will direct the highly-anticipated sequel, based on a screenplay by ‘Alien: Covenant’ writer Michael Green as well as Hampton Fancher – who co-wrote the first ‘Blade Runner’ film.

Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will produce the sequel, alongside Cynthia Sikes Yorkin. The late Bud Yorkin, who sold the ‘Blade Runner’ rights to Alcon back in 2011, will also receive producing credit.

Ridley Scott is on board as Executive Producer along with Frank Giustra, Bill Carraro and Tim Gamble.

Principle photography for the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel will begin in July 2016.

‘Blade Runner 2’ heads to cinemas on 12 January 2018.
